Today we chat with Cape Town based Illustrator Ian Jepson. He tells us how 80’s and 90’s movies inspire his work. Enjoy!
Who is Ian Jepson and what do you do?
I am a 26 year old illustrator/designer living in Cape Town. After working at Am I Collective for a little over 3 years, I have recently decided to head off on my own and begin freelancing.
How would you define your style or art?
Weird, sometimes dark – and then sometimes totally naive and lighthearted. Mostly linework based, but I also work in illustrator when I need to.
What inspires your work?
Movies, especially awful 80s and 90s films – and ones featuring monsters. Good music. And most things in between.
What are you currently working on?
Various projects, but nothing huge in the works just yet!
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Never get comfortable. As soon as you’re happy with the work that you’re doing, you will stop developing and just be stagnate.
Where can our readers follow your work?
