Today we chat with art director and illustrator Mokoena Kobeli. Happy Monday!
Who is Mokoena Kobeli and what do you do?
I’m a creative person, based in Johannesburg. I completed my Bachelors Degree in Multimedia Design at FADA, University of Johannesburg, in 2008. I’m an Art Director and an Illustrator by profession.
How would you define your style or art?
It’s a fusion of contemporary Afro landscape, traditional Disney and French animation.
What inspires your work?
I find inspiration in graphic novels, Indie-films, books and old experimental animation.
What are you currently working on?
Apart from small print projects, I am working on a 2-D animated short film. I’ve finished most of the pre-production work but, the style I’ve developed for the backgrounds is a bit too detailed. It’s very challenging but, the end product will be satisfactory.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Observe your environment because, I think that’s where ‘true’ inspiration resides. Always surround yourself with exceptional, creative work and people. Keep working on your craft, there are no short cuts to ‘mastery’. It’s observation and practice, over and over again.
Where can our readers follow your work?
I have some my work on Behance. This is the link… http://www.behance.net/mokoenakobeli
