Malo 8 directs pan-African Coke ad

Frieze Films’ Malo 8 recently directed Full House, Ogilvy Cape Town’s pan-African commercial for Coca-Cola.

Conceptualised by Ogilvy’s creative team of Jacques Massardo, Ben de Villiers and Logan Broadley, the spot celebrates the way Coca-Cola and meals go better together.

Malo and DOP Paul Gilpin shot the guests arriving in sequence, lighting the lounge so that the two cameras could shoot in three directions. “It allowed us to play in real time as much as possible and gave the ad a pace that felt real and natural.”

He also worked closely with art director Margaux du Preez to make sure the house felt “lived in.”

Edited by Kobus Loots at Upstairs Post Production, the ad is held together by Rob Schroeder’s cover of Hank Williams’ Move It On Over.
