#whileyouwerehustling opens at /A Word of Art in Woodstock, Cape Town on Thursday, 18 July 2013 from 7-11pm and runs until 31 August 2013.
Bryan Little and Conn Bertish’s exhibition explores themes of evolution, gentrification, obsessive quests, misfits and outsiders. The process-orientated body of work seeks to unravel notions of progress, asking where we take our guidance from and where are we going.
Bryan is an award-winning filmmaker and artist. While he says his greatest achievements are spending a long weekend with Werner Herzog in a New Jersey motel and looking at an orb spider with Sir David Attenborough on the side of the M3, he’s also the only South African filmmaker to have won the Audience Award twice at Encounters South African International Documentary Festival (for Fokofpolisiekar: Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do and The African Cypher, which was also named Best South African Documentary at Durban International Film Festival and is now touring the international festival circuit). He co-founded Fly On The Wall in 2004.
Conn is executive creative director at Quirk, having previously held the creative reigns at JWT. He’s scooped Gold and Silver medals at all the major ad festivals worldwide, including a Yellow Pencil at London’s D&AD Awards for creative direction. A former judge at Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, he’s also produced hilarious social experiment, public space artworks like The 0834319513 project and has even created a trademark hat-with-feather look.
