Who is Muti and what do you guys do?
MUTI is a creative studio based in Cape Town, South Africa, specialising in illustration, typography, design in a variety of styles.
How would you define your style or art?
Our style is always evolving and developing. We’re really inspired by all things local and throughout the continent, especially the people, patterns and colours. With regard to our medium, we like to mix things up a bit. We work by hand, in vector, do digital painting or a combination thereof. I guess that’s the advantage of having a whole team of people.
What inspires your work?
We’re inspired by what we see every day, from hand painted shop signage to beautiful building facades. We also get a lot of inspiration from other creatives and friends in the industry.
What are you currently working on?
We’re currently working on a fun little animation project as well as a series of fabric designs for Mingo Lamberti, which will be launching at the Design Indaba this year.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Believe in yourself and your talent, stay focused and remember to stay humble – there’s always something to learn from every situation.
Where can our readers follow your work?
MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice (who do you prefer if you had to choose?)
MC Hammer please!
