Who is Stefan B. Smit and what do you do?
Hard question.. In a nutshell, I’m a freelance illustrator currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Working with oil paints, pencils, water colours, charcoal, Photoshop, Illustrator and any other medium I can get my hands on, I carve out a name for myself by working hard and professionally on whatever projects I find myself involved in.
How would you define your style or art?
Expressive and versatile.
I’m used to working in many different styles and mediums for various clients from doing rough impressionistic paintings of the Johannesburg skyline to very detailed vectors for logos.
What inspires your work?
My inspiration comes from perseverance. The more I practice and put in, the more motivated I become when I see myself progressing.
That and the numerous amounts of ridiculously talented artists out there.
What are you currently working on?
I’m the director of Arts and Photography for Tutor Music, a music teachers agency who specialise in finding the best teacher for you, who is sent to teach you in the comfort of your own home.
I’ve also started my own company – Ink Drop Illustration which I’m currently growing and developing.
I’m in the process of looking for an agency to represent me as up until this point I’ve handled everything myself.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Try finding and surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are inspired and motived and practice your skill, daily!
