Who is Kobus Butler and what do you do?
I am a Graphic Designer, but dedicate a larger part of my life out of work, working on my personal passions. My main love is illustration. I’ve spent my adolescent life here behind the “boerewors gordyn” in Bellville digesting what goes on around me. And getting out through different kinds of media. I play around with photography and painting as well but stick mainly to illustration.
How would you define your style or art?
I try not to limit my style, but I would say definitely I prefer black and white, although colour works too. I enjoy an analogue/traditional process, but when Digital works I don’t mind giving it a bash.
What inspires your work?
Whatever is inspiring at that point in time sometimes conversations set off ideas or messages that I like to illustrate. My work is sometimes absolutely superficial and at other times carries at least some conceptual message.
What are you currently working on?
I work a nine to five, so there’s that, and also currently working a book cover, for a collection of poetry, which I would like to see, published quite soon. Other than that making short BMX edits and a lot of photography
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do
Just keep at it, if you really want it stay hungry and continue pursuing your goals even if they take long to achieve, I am still trying to achieve mine.
