Who is Siya Bobotyana and what do you do?
Siya Bobotyana is a young man who was born in the Eastern Cape but has been a Johannesburg resident for a while now. Very passionate about the creative industry, hence I’m photographer, designer and illustrator.
How would you define your style or art?
Gritty and communicates the true feeling of the individuals and subjects I represent. every photograph and illustration has it’s own unique identity and
Reflects energy distinctive only to itself.
What inspires your work?
Everyone who does what he or she believes in, no matter the circumstance inspires me. I am especially inspired by my father, my friend and mentor Shaun Mallet, illustrator Vania Zouravliov and legendary photographer Bruce Davidson.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on a variety of projects especially during the weekends as I have a full-time job as a Picture Editor and Illustrator. Every project is a prospect for me to sharpen my skills so I never let an opportunity to pass me by.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Practice, practice and more practice. The more you do it the better you become at it and the more innovative you become. Check out tutorial, read books, get a mentor. Work at a pace that suits you and do everything that will make you a frontrunner at what you do.
