Live Magazine SA and British Council Connect ZA host June #CreativeHustle in partnership with Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival


Next month youth magazine Live Magazine SA and the British Council Connect ZA will offer young people the opportunity to take part in a visual art masterclass as part of their #CreativeHustles event series.

Taking place at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg on Thursday 12 June 2014, the Hustle is part of the Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival (presented by Constitution Hill in association with Kalshnikovv Gallery initiative) and will focus on a group exhibition called Riot. Featuring 20 artists, Riot showcases art inspired by original military helmets used in various riots and uprisings in South Africa throughout the 1970’s and 80’s.

Attendees will join group masterclasses led by some of the artists featured in the exhibition including Tenjiwe Nkosi, Pamela Phatsimo, Sindiso Nyoni, Fuzzy Slippers, Mbuso Ndlovu,Ryan Liedemann, Vusi Beauchamp, Craig Smith, Shaun Hill and MJ Turpin. Attendees will also hear from Kalshnikovv Gallery’s MJ Turpin and Matthew Dean, CUSS Group’s Jamal Nxedlana and Floating Reverie.

Basha Uhuru is a three day youth festival from 12 to 14 June 2014 that celebrates creative culture and freedom of expression in South Africa. Taking pace at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, the festival is a comprehensive look at the wealth of talent and artistic energy that flows through our country, showcasing diverse mediums from visual and performance art to film, music and poetry.#CreativeHustles attendees will also have the chance to attend the festival’s free events

#CreativeHustles is a partnership between Live Magazine SA and British Council Connect ZA, offering a platform for up-and-coming creatives, aged 18 to 35 years, to engage and build relationships with established industry professionals and to receive creative and career advice.

#CreativeHustles: Visual Art Riot Masterclass takes place at Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg on Thursday 12 June from 12pm to 4pm. It is free to attend for 18 to 35 year-olds, however you must reserve your place to attend at
