 Design Times Features Women in Advertising for the 2014 Creative Industry Edition

For it’s 53rd issue, South Africa’s creative resource, Design Times, will be featuring content specifically focussed on the creative industry, once again coinciding with the Annual Loerie Awards.

The issue features a special focus on women in advertising, where six industry-leading women were asked for their perspectives on what it takes to make it in the industry and what inspires them. The six female powerhouses grace the cover designed by Yolandi de Beer, and feature Bibi Lotter , Steph van Niekerk, Terry Naude, Dani Hynes, Laure May Vale, and Melissa Read.

The issue also features an interview with Stephen Doyle, communication design chairman for the Loeries, from New York, which Design Times editor Mark Rosenberg says promises to be both informative and entertaining – giving readers insight into the calibre of people judging the awards.

Further, readers can expect some 3D illustrations and typography by Christopher Labrooy; an inspirational article on James Dyson, the inventor of the Dyson vacuum cleaner, who went through 5000 prototypes in order to finally complete the launch product; Johannes Torpe, Danish architect who is now Creative Director for B&O; and some legal advice on copyright for the creative industry from specialist law firm Spoor & Fisher.

“The Loerie Awards are important because they inspire us to strive harder while showcasing South Africa’s phenomenal creative talent,” says Rosenberg, adding that he felt inspired while carrying out the interview and putting together the features for this edition. “I had the opportunity to speak to some incredible creative minds. Whenever I am inspired and excited by the creative I am featuring, I hope the readers will have the same experience.”

In conclusion, he says his highlights of the edition include the feature on women in advertising, and the interview with Stephen Doyle. “We wanted to showcase that there is an army of female creatives that are not always given their due.”

The 53rd issue will be on sale through Exclusive Book on Friday, 19 September.
