Fine Art & Collectable items, including memorabilia, paintings and South African photography will go under the hammer on Tuesday 9 September at 18h30.
“Photography is now beginning to feature as the recognised art form it deserves to be in South Africa,” says Senior Art specialist Imre Lamprecht of Stephan Welz & Co. The auction will feature a number of black and white photographs from prominent South African photographers, ranging from the urban to the edgy, with subjects as varied as Die Antwoord, Sophiatown youth and a German tightrope walker.
Included are works from Michael Meyersfeld, Jürgen Schadeberg, Roger Ballen, Sabelo Mlangeni, Joseph Wolpe and Stephen Inggs, with notable works including Schadeberg’s Tightrope Walker, German and Meyersfeld’s Woman Undone Series: TBC, both with estimated values of R18 000 – R24 000. Also for sale is a colour digital print from David Goldblatt entitled Sports-Field, numbered 5/60, valued at R18 000 – R24 000.
The Stephan Welz & Co. Fine Art & Collectables Auction will take place on 9 and 10 September on the 4th floor, South Tower, Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton, Johannesburg.
