Rich rewards for the winning work of South Africa’s top advertising creatives, sizzling entertainment by Karen Zoid, Jay and Nandi Mngoma, a mouth-watering five-star dinner and goodie bags filled to the brim for each and every guest, to boot.
This and much more await guests at the glittering 2014 Pendoring awards event at Vodacom World, Midrand, on 24 October.
Following two successful years in Cape Town, the Pendoring gala event is back in Gauteng, promising to be even bigger and more dazzling than ever.
Characterised by excellent entertainment, for the past 19 years the Pendoring gala event has been widely lauded as a highlight on the advertising calendar, luring people from near and far to attend. And with Zoid, Jay and Mngoma on stage this year, fireworks can be expected!
Some 12 years ago, Zoid set the South African music scene alight when she recreated the Afrikaans rock genre with her first solo album Poles Apart. Although she now hosts her own TV programme on kykNET, the stage, with guitar in hand, is still her first love.
With similar zest and vigour, Jay revitalised Afrikaans pop music. His second album, #DisHoeOnsRol, achieved gold status shortly after its release. He will perform a range of old and new hits at the Pendoring gala event.
Balancing the tempo set by Zoid and Jay, TV personality and performer Mngoma, whose debut album Nandi was released in 2012, is also bound to enthral guests. And under the name The Horizons, the acoustic guitar duo Zweli Matsebula and Brandon Chawane will combine jazz, rock and Africa rhythms in their own appealing creations.
The Pendoring production will likewise push the envelope, says Theofista Ellis, acclaimed producer and the live wire behind this year’s production. “Utilising new technology, in this year’s production we’ll be ‘playing’ with light and darkness in a way never seen before, which is sure to captivate the audience,” Ellis reckons.
As usual, the two MCs will also lend lustre to the gala event. This year Martin Bester of Jacaranda 94.2 and his colleague and kykNET presenter Rozanne McKenzie will be doing the announcements. To ensure that they look a million dollars, designer Diaan Daniels, whose creations have been seen at the Cannes Film Festival and Emmy Awards, was commissioned to dress them to the nines.
However, at the end of the day, the evening belongs to the advertising creatives whose winning work in the various Pendoring categories will be awarded and celebrated. Each winner of a gold Pendoring will receive R6 000 and silver winners R2 500. The winner of the student category will receive R10 000, as well as an internship at TBWA\Hunt Lascaris.
The overall winner in the Truly South African section will receive the Umpetha award and R20 000, while the overall winner in the Afrikaans section walks away with the Prestige award, comprising an overseas study tour of R50 000. The client of Prestige winner will receive free media worth a whopping R2 million.
