Open Studios has partnered with the Creative Block’s recruitment drive for new artists. Open Studios takes place on 28 – 29 November 2014. This is the second consecutive year that the Creative Block will form part of Open Studios – formerly Art Walk – organized by Eastside Studios resident artist, Elize Vossgatter.
Geared at advancing artists’ careers and launching further art partnerships, the Creative Block welcomes artists of both established and emerging talent to visit The Creative Block at Eastside Studios during Open Studios and apply to participate in the project in person.
Artists are given blank blocks of 18cm² to transform using any medium they choose. Submitted monthly to expert critique, the best blocks are purchased on the spot, allowing immediate income to the artist. These blocks are then included in ever-evolving Creative Block collection to be sold across the globe: from upmarket Nando’s restaurants in the UK, to the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, as well as the homes of private collectors. Since 2004, over 17500 Creative Blocks have been included in the collection. Introduction to the Creative Block often leads to further partnerships with Yellowwoods Art – owner of The Creative Block.
Open Studios artists Liza Grobler, Norman O’Flynn, Swain Hoogervorst, Frans Smit, Christopher Slack, Elsabe Milandri, Wonder Marthinus, Barbara Wildenboer, Kilmany-Jo Liversage, Judy Woodborne, Maurice Mbikayi, Karen Cronjé, Elize Vossgatter, Marilise Keith, Pierre Fouché and Dion Cupido are among the 150 participants of the Creative Block.
