PPC Imaginarium Awards: Finalists Exhibitions and Announcement of Winners

PPC Ltd is proud to be associated with the PPC Imaginarium Awards, an aspiring awards programme aimed at promoting and supporting emerging creative talent in South Africa. The programme thrusts PPC Ltd into the limelight as one of the biggest supporters of the Arts community in our country. This is fitting for a company that has contributed to the growth and development of southern Africa for more than a century. It is another demonstration of PPC’s recognition that art and design are major contributors to innovation. Innovation provides solutions to the key issues facing people; communities; countries and the world as we all strive for a better and more sustainable future- a “Better Life for All”.

The Imaginarium is organized annually and emerging South African artists and designers, permanent residents as well as students, including foreign students with study permits may participate. The Awards programme focuses on six art and design categories: Fine Art: Sculpture; Jewellery, Industrial Design; Film; Architecture and Fashion. The Award is unique in its combination of offering financial benefits, mentoring, workshops, exhibition opportunities and promotion in the media as well as allowing for online exposure and sales.

The first Imaginarium Awards exhibition consists of the work of the 96 finalists selected nationally from 477 shortlisted submissions. The official opening and announcement of the winners in each category will take place on Thursday 22 September 2015 at the UJ Art gallery, UJ Kingsway Campus, Auckland Park, Johannesburg. Winners in each category will receive a cash prize of R50 000.00. The exhibition which is organised and curated in partnership with the University of Johannesburg will be open to the public from Friday, January 23, until Friday, February 13, 2015. Educational talks on Innovation and Creativity by thought leaders in the world of design and tours of the exhibition will be offered to Schools and Universities.

The exhibition will then be on public display at the Design Indaba, ICCCT, and Cape Town for the duration of the Design Indaba Expo from 27 February until 1 March 2015. A preview cocktail function is organised by the Design Indaba for the evening of Thursday 26 February. During this event the overall PPC Imaginarium winner will be announced and a cash prize of R100 000.00 awarded.

The final exhibition will be in collaboration with the Young Blood Gallery at 70 Bree Street, Cape Town. The exhibition will open as part of the First Thursday CT activities on Thursday,

March 5, 2015 and will be open to public viewing until Saturday,
