Childline Gauteng is an organisation that offers shelter to children in need through their Sunlight Safe House project, as well as free telephone counselling for children and families 24/7. Established in 1987, the organisation has developed a range of support services, which include face-to-face counselling, awareness programmes in schools, training on children’s issues and leadership programmes.
The organisation needed a way to make donating a more tangible and user-friendly experience, so agency, NET#WORK BBDO, in collaboration with digital agency, Flint & Tinder, developed the Childline Gauteng Memory Store. This is an online store filled with happy childhood memories that spark a bit of nostalgia.
Juliet Honey, Creative Group Head at NET#WORK BBDO, tells us: “The problem is that not every child is fortunate enough to have a happy childhood, so the Childline Gauteng Memory Store provides less fortunate children the opportunity to create happy memories of their own.” All one would have to do is browse the store, choose a memory and buy it by making a small donation. The donation then helps Childline Gauteng to create happy memories for their kids. The memories can then be shared with friends to hopefully inspire more people to donate.
Along with the store, Childline Gauteng is also running a t-shirt design competition through Springleap – a platform of agency level designers with over 22k creatives globally.
This is an innovative design challenge that presents designers globally with the opportunity to create designs for a unique T-shirt that best encapsulates their fondest childhood memory.
Once designs are submitted, Childline Gauteng fans and lovers of design will be able to vote on their favourites, share the designs with their friends and comment, taking the content viral through social media. Top 10 voters will win one of the winning designs printed on a t-shirt.
The top 15 voted designs will appear before a design panel to choose the winners, $2000 in cash for the winning designs! The 3 winning designs will be printed on t-shirts and sold countrywide throughout South Africa on Childline Gauteng, Springleap and various other avenues to help less fortunate kids experience some memories of their own.
Through Springleap’s unique app, all votes and comments on designs are viewable across different platforms and pages at the same time, generating exposure for the designers and engaging Childline Gauteng fans.
