The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2015, taking place from 21st to 27th June, is an opportunity for South Africans to dazzle in more ways than one. Cinemark, the local representative for the Cannes Lions and its affiliates, is thrilled to announce that eight of South Africa’s home grown talented individuals will be travelling to Cannes to judge some of the most prestigious work in the industry.

The talented creative professionals that will take to the judging panel this year are: Jonathan Deeb, Graham Lang, Pepe Marais, Joanina Pastoll, Andy Rice, Tanya Shreuder, Liam Wielopolski and Justin Wright.

“The fact that so many individuals from South Africa were not only nominated but have been chosen to serve on the judging panel of one of the most important festivals in the creative industry is testament to our ever-expanding talent. As far as the industry is concerned, South Africa truly is a world-class country, competing with the best of them. This is evident in our consistently ranking as one of the top 20 most creative countries amidst about 97 countries who participate in Cannes annually,” says Cinemark’s Yvonne Diogo.

Justin Wright

“Not only is South Africa a fore-runner at the Cannes Lions International Festivity of Creativity, the region has proved it can equally contribute to the Creative Effectiveness debate. Hence the appointment of Andy Rice to the jury. A well worth celebrating feat considering that in the category’s 4 years in existence, Andy Rice will be the first South African ever to secure a seat on the Creative Effectiveness jury! It is only when a region participates in a particular media category by submitting entries and winning Lions that the festival even considers a seat on the jury for that particular region,” explains Diogo.

Conglatulations to all the judges who will be sure to do South Africa proud. To the rest of the brand communications community locally, don’t miss out on an opportunity to rub shoulders with these local industry giants as well as the world’s greatest creative talent in Cannes. Deadline for entering work into the Cannes Lions Creative Festival is 27 March, so act fast.
