BBDO announced today that Gautham Narayanan has been appointed as Deputy MD of and as BBDO Africa Regional Director. Narayanan joins the Johannesburg office following 13 years with BBDO and more recently as a board member of AMVBBDO, the biggest agency in the UK.
“I am excited about the challenges of this new opportunity. Realising Africa’s massive growth potential has to be one of the biggest marketing opportunities available, and I want to be part of it. I was born in India and educated in the UK so this just feels like a natural progression in the global marketplace,” says Narayanan.
He joins the management team at Net#work BBDO as Deputy Managing Director, and BBDO Group CEO Keith Shipley says that the energy and experience that Narayanan brings to the agency is invaluable: “Gau’s drive, extensive business expertise and hands-on global client experience brings a new dynamic to our team.”

Referring to himself as a ‘BBDO-lifer’, Narayanan started as an AMVBBDO graduate who was fast tracked to an Account Director in just 3 years. He was then promoted to the AMV board within 7 years and founded Lunar.BBDO, a creative and media start-up agency. Gau has also run AMVBBDO’s most important accounts in local, regional and global roles including British Telecom, Guinness, Snickers, Wrigley and Blackberry.
Shipley concludes that one of the factors that influenced the decision to appoint Gau is his enthusiasm and belief that he can take the Net#work Creative DNA to even higher levels in an exciting new era for the agency.
