Who is Kate Davies and what do you do?
I am a Cape Town based human with a deep love for photography. Currently I am 4 years into exploring the infrared side of photography but also currently working in other photography fields too.
How would you define your style or art?
I don’t believe I have a style as such, I shoot whatever feels right to me. This approach has really allowed me to be open to photographing anything and everything I want. Some call my style random, I call it more observational. I enjoy the freedom in that.
What inspires your work?
Strong individuals who stand for what they believe in, simplicity of love, depth of emotion. I am inspired by anyone/anything that has overcome the odds against them and succeeded.
What are you currently working on?
Well I am still working with Spree and the t-shirt collaboration range we just produced to coincide with my recent exhibition. After that, I will be sticking with infrared photography for a while, I believe I still have so much to capture and a lot to learn. We recently did a road trip through Namibia, and I photographed the entire journey. I believe it is a magnificent journey through desolation
and shows a different side of “Africa” so I am currently working through the images and will be releasing a type of travel diary soon. After that, hopefully a trip to Iceland is on the cards.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Decide what you want and keep your eye on the goal. But also know that your goals may change along the way so try to allow for adaptation. There will be hurdles so keep your friends close, and your family closer 🙂 And try to enjoy the journey, too often we are so obsessed with getting there that when we do we can’t remember any of the ride. Eyes open all the way!
