Net#work starts year off with a Bang Bang for Chicken Licken

Forget the typical January of scrounging for your last cent, while you recover from the festive season, Chicken Licken is giving South Africans a chance to get more bang for their buck … a meal for just R15!

Net#work BBDO Group Managing Director, Boniswa Pezisa, says that it’s a matter of getting under the skin of the average South African. “Chicken Licken is all about soul food so an understanding of consumers challenges and reality is what made this such an exciting concept to be a part of.”

The new TV ad, (conceptualised by Net#work’s Heidi Kasselman & Safaraaz Sindhi, directed by Velocity’s award-winning Greg Gray) exploded onto screens this week; it’s certainly giving viewers more fizz for their fifteen bucks. Not only does this crazy madcap comedy entertain, but in typical Chicken Licken style, it breaks with convention. Its’ sell is as sizzling as the fireworks that light up the lives of some dour office workers desperate for a bargain. It’s a rather slickly demonstrated human truth: R15 and quality don’t usually go hand-in-hand, but now Chicken Licken’s BangBang has revolutionised that notion. The ad opens with office workers comparing what they have bought for R15 – from an antique mug to an assassination attempt on the boss – and, of course, these purchases don’t deliver on what they promised. Until, finally, one sussed dude finds the sweet spot, tucking into a quality meal.

Mike Schalit, Chief Creative Officer BBDO SA, says, “For the last 13 years, partnering with the likes of Chicken Licken CEO/founder George Sombonos has given us unlimited trust to take his vision to the South African consumer, and it is this trust and collaboration that gives us the opportunity to deliver something fresh and original, that is right on the money.”

Adds Pezisa, “What makes the Bang Bang Mix particularly compelling is that the offer is on point in terms of economic times, the market it talks to and the humour that carries the message. No wonder Chicken Licken is on such a record sales trajectory in such tough times – last year saw sale records soar as South Africans follow their craving for mouthwatering quality and value.

That’s it; three R5 coins, will ensure that no one has to give-up on their craving for Chicken Licken, with this new Bang Bang Mix – “2 sliders and 2 hot wings for Fif-teeen Bucks” will make sure every South African can spend their money wisely, keeping loyal patrons and newbies flying through the doors.
