In celebration of its 250th anniversary, Hennessy will pay tribute to all those across the globe who have played a part in its phenomenal success by setting out on a world tour in 2015.
The Hennessy 250 Tour will showcase the brand’s heritage through the eyes of internationally acclaimed contemporary artists, reflecting the unique bond that Hennessy has always maintained with the art world. Between March and September 2015, the Hennessy 250 Tour will visit five countries in five iconic locations, including right here on South African soil. Johannesburg’s Circa Gallery will host the traveling exhibit in August, featuring work by well-renowned artists who will pay homage to the brand.
“Hennessy embodies a blend of global and local, urban and rural , modern and traditional , and nowhere is this spirit more wholeheartedly expressed than here in South Africa,” comments Patrick Madendjian, Moët Hennessy – Market Manager. “We are incredibly excited and proud to be only one of five host countries for this travelling exhibition.” Other famous stops on the tour include Guangzhou’s Zaha Hadid Opera House, Moscow’s New Manege, New York’s Lincoln Centre and an as yet undisclosed location in Paris, for the finale.
These historic creative hotspots and bastions of modernity have been chosen to serve as the stage for the tour, with the CIRCA Gallery in Johannesburg having been selected thanks to its one-of-a-kind architectural landmark dedicated to the arts of the third millennium.
An ode to both past and future
The exhibition, which will be curated by world renowned international curator Hervé Mikaeloff, in collaboration with Nathalie Crinière, will take visitors behind the scenes of Hennessy, with each stop reflecting a full chapter of the brand’s fabled story. The six-chapter journey will include unique work created by each artist, in resonance with elements of the Hennessy legacy that have never before been displayed.
In addition, a travelling ‘Time Barrel’ will give visitors a unique chance not only to uncover Hennessy’s history, but also to be a part of its future. Attendees will be encouraged to leave their own messages to future generations using various forms of multimedia, which they will then be able to share via social networks directly from inside the capsule. These messages will then be stored and preserved for release at a later date.
A legacy of artistry
Early patrons of the arts, the Hennessy family has over time collaborated with some of the greatest icons of contemporary pop culture, as well as top artists and designers of the 21st century, something that is reflected in its iconic limited editions and prestigious signatures. The Hennessy 250 Tour looks to reaffirm the brand’s strong affiliation with the arts, featuring a variety of talents from a wide spectrum of backgrounds in each respective worldwide stop.
To celebrate the bicentennial, Hennessy will launch a new limited edition, the Hennessy Collector’s Blend in 2015 “The 250 Collector Blend is an expression of absolute perfectionism and a tribute from the present members of the Comité to their predecessors,” Madendjian concludes.
