Where can you find the space between the space between, and how do you get to live in it?

Umuzi is thrilled to be publishing The Space Between the Space Between, a compelling first novel by playwright, author and advertising guru John Hunt.

This creative and highly entertaining novel tells the story of a young man, Jethro, who finds himself bouncing between a troubled history and an uncertain future. Bewildered, he reveals his circumstances to a pro-bono therapist, Dr Chatwin. Tales he relates to Dr Chatwin include an altercation involving Jerry, a giraffe made of wire and condoms, and an afternoon spent at the side of the road holding a sign that read “Poet”. Jethro also tells of his stint as a dubious (French) pastry chef, his purchasing of a Congolese nail fetish with strong magic, and the planning of a risky heist.

Always seemingly caught between a rock and a hard place, and always harking back to a specific tragic incident, Jethro one day meets a young girl, Matsotso Cecilia Dumisa, who might hold the key to his salvation.

Featuring a host of eccentric, humane South Africans, the inspiring The Space Between the Space Between is a touching and wise portrayal of modern life.

The book is available in print and as an e-book.

John Hunt will be launching his novel at CIRCA Johannesburg, 2 Jellicoe Avenue, Rosebank, on Thursday, 12 February at 6.30 p.m. Booking is essential.

John Hunt is the co-founder of the advertising agency network TBWA\Hunt Lascaris and is currently Worldwide Creative Director of TBWA.
