Who is Allie Molefe and what do you do?
I’m a 19 year old Architecture student and self taught artist. When I’m not busy with architecture I spend my time creating beautiful things such as jewelery , clothing, handbags and furniture.
How would you define your style or art?
I would say very Afrocentric with some minimalist aspects here and there. I love to use deep striking colours against monochrome backgrounds and also use an abundance of patterns and prints to add spirit and liveliness to my art . I try to stay clear of any political matter as my subject and solely focus on me , my life and my perspective .
What inspires your work?
My life as a whole , things And emotions I experience on the daily inspire my work, I am blessed to be able to communicate things I struggle to vocalize through my art. I’m also inspired by various artists , such as Tracy Emin , I’m absolutely INLOVE with her work and how unfiltered and raw it is and other local artists my age aswell, I love to see what we as the youth can do with art, it’s truly amazing .
What are you currently working on?
Aside from an architectural internship , I am working with a group of young talented people to start a new art collective for unknown self taught emerging artists. I’m working on a light design for the Nandos Young Designers competition and also working on designing concrete furniture for the PPC Imaginarium Awards 2016.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Honestly, I would say form and follow your own aesthetic , what every artist does is unique and true to themselves so do art your way, so that it represents you as an individual and stands out. People will forever remember your work for its uniqueness.
What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
