Wednesday night, the Open Design Cape Town Festival 2015 opened its gates. For the first, the social design project “Tell The World – I am proud to be African” by Heidi Pippan, an Austrian expert on public social interventions whose second home is Cape Town, is part of the festival programme.
Tell the World asks Africans to tell the world, why they are proud to be African. The project reaches out to everyone’s positive inner resources, as it is them that symbolize the strength of a nation respectively a continent, and that are the tools to design a positive common future.
The Open Design event is a follow-up to its premiere during the African Nations Football Championships in 2014. During halftime at the CHAN final all answers written on message cards by the football fans were attached to balloons and released into the Cape Town sky, spreading the pride of the African people all over the globe.
Tell The World has been supported by Austrian energy drink company POWER HORSE right from the start, as it perfectly links up with their slogan “Free Your Energy”.
The collaboration between Open Design and Tell the World provides the perfect platform to pose the pertinent question to a diverse audience.
At the most prominent festival events the so-called Flag Girls (wearing capes displaying the national flags of all Southern African nations) briefly present TTW, motivating the audience to take part, and fill out the message cards or to upload their replies onto the respective Twitter account.
At the end of the festival on August 23 a huge, Africa-shaped word cloud of all answers will be revealed.
