From the world’s first artificially intelligent playlist to innovative interior design features, the Heineken® Next Level Bar will be a unique, intimate space that brings together art, design and technology to inspire Next Level creativity.
Inspired by intimate bars in the Golden Gai district in Shinjuku Tokyo, the Heineken® Next Level pop-up bar will bring next level innovation and design to Braamfontein this December.
The bar is being constructed from two interlocking shipping containers that will echo the sleek new Heineken® 330ml Cool Can. The Next Level bar will be comprised of a slender bar area and intimate gallery space where every day an inspiring up-and-coming creative will showcase and discuss their work.
“We wanted to create a space that would inspire networking and creative collaboration between people from very different creative disciplines who live in Joburg,” says Leon Erasmus of Leg Studios and Juaan Ferreira of Sonic State,
the interior architects and spatial designers working together to bring the Next Level Bar to life.
In keeping with the slim dimensions of the bar, the design features have been innovatively developed in 2 dimensional treatments, which includes wallpaper designs by one of South Africa’s freshest designers and laser-cut wall maps. Ceiling and floor inlays enhance the elongated proportions of the space, and direct people towards the rear of the bar where mirror has been used to create an optical illusion of space. Concealed and exposed LED lighting strips, timber and steel finishes further add to the design-orientated details of the bar area. “As this is an urban installation,” Juaan explains, “the construction is quite a hard typology”.
In contrast, the gallery space will play with neutral whites and light greys. This allows the creative work being presented to take precedence and take it to the next level.
The Next level Bar will also feature the world’s first artificially intelligent playlist. This has been specially created for the bar, and is an automated playlist that adapts itself according to the time of day and number of people entering or leaving the bar. This will ensure that the mood in the bar is always amplified by the bar itself and constantly takes its patrons to the next level.
The intimate dimensions of the space are designed to break down perceived barriers between artist and viewer, and open a next level space for people to engage, discuss and collaborate. #OpenNextLevel
