Giant Films’ director Karien Cherry received a Gold Pixel Craft Award at the IAB Bookmarks, South Africa’s premier digital awards, for her direction of the New Balance spot ‘Baby vs. Dale Steyn’. The film was conceived by King James Group and also bagged the agency a Bronze Pixel in the hotly contested Branded Content category.
Despite a record number of entries into the Bookmarks this year, only 9 golds were awarded. Karien’s gold positioned Giant Films as the only production company to receive an award at the Bookmarks, asserting the company’s relevance within the rapidly changing landscape of advertising. With a celebrated history in commercial and feature film production, Giant Films have embraced the digital future.
Emma Lundy, Executive Producer at Giant Films, explains that “the strengths and challenges of online content are certainly unique to the medium but our directors’ focus as storytellers remains unchanged; to deliver compelling visual work that tells engaging stories. Where many production houses form separate divisions to produce online content, we recognise the benefits in not isolating this work from what we have traditionally produced. The value that comes from our directors working across multiple platforms is immeasurable, and we are proud to have Karien leading the way.”
