Who is Ivan Pretorius and what do you do?

I’m a 23 year old male born and raised in Mapumalanga, South Africa. I was born with this rare disorder called Spinal muscular atrophy which in short means I had a lot of time to practice, I’ve always loved drawing and being creative I’m a full time anti social artist .By this i mean i practice drawing 8 hours everyday, most of the time it looks terrible but sometimes it doesn’t and those days are my favorite

Tell us about your work?

I am fascinated by relationships of all types–happy ones, complicated ones, unusual ones.  Through art, I often attempt to dissect the meaning behind something that has happened or to describe a particular feeling or emotion.

I enjoy the challenge of communicating what we each experience in our everyday lives, bringing those unique moments to life through art.

And what is really wonderful about art is that I can pass on that inspiration; if I can clearly communicate some aspect of life, if I can inform or entertain the people who view my art, I may also have the opportunity to inspire them as well.

3.What inspires your work?

It sometimes feels so innate, so natural to me as a artist , and I think I find inspiration in many places and spaces…seeing other people’s art gets my imagination working.

I do some of my best thinking when I can’t sleep in the middle of the night or when I’m away from my computer; in those quiet moments, I sometimes practically “draw” an entire piece in my head before I actually sit down to sketch it out.  But in thinking more about your question…I find inspiration in the everyday.

What are you currently working on?

My biggest project to date it is a 1 year project i’m about 8 months in its going to be a mash up of 365 self portraits

What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?

My advice would be to practice because if you putt in time and effort you can do anything

What has been the highlight of your career thus far?

My highlight thus far was selling my first project it was couple of years ago but it sticks to me because up until that point i was only doing it because it was fun, and that to me is what art is all about fun, i would still be doing this even if nobody wanted to buy my stuff

Where can our readers follow your work?

I’m currently thinking about setting up a site might do in the near future but in the mean time i’m on facebook ( )

Love the one-two punches that are hammering the SOB squatting in the White House and spilling his pearly whites all over the canvas. Go ahead and call your fellow Communist and Muslim radicals to bail you out like the little punk you are.
