Hamblin Imagery along with co-producers Red Bull Media House and Clapham Road Studios are proud to announce the release of their highly-anticipated film Let’s Be Frank – The Double Life of Frank James Solomon, a visceral journey through the unseen and unknown world of the big wave surfer from South Africa.

Premiering globally on Red Bull TV on 19th September 2016 with a one week catch-up window, and with cinematic screenings worldwide from 1st September taking place in LA, Cape Town, Durban, London and San Sebastian; this 50 minute hyper-stylized film is set to revitalise the surf-film making genre.

Based on the supposed double life of South African big wave surfer Frank James Solomon, this out-of-the-box surf film is set in a “conspiracy theory”, where the lines of myth, legend and reality are increasingly blurred. Featuring hit men, drag queens and layer cake, and starring familiar faces from the surfing world appearing in unfamiliar situations, this 50 minute film will take audiences on an intercontinental clandestine investigation leading to ask the question… Just who is Frank?

A gambler? A playboy? How is he funding his travels? And how does he negotiate his sponsorship deals? Ask yourself as well, if you were a conspirator, what storytelling references would you use?

Written and directed by up-and-coming South African visionary Peter Hamblin, Let’s Be Frank showcases his trademark style as previously showcased in The Wright Side of Wrong and The Ripple Effect (series) but elevates further combining stunning cinematography with a fast paced, multi-layered storyline, and unusual narrative which depicts the questionable life of adventurer Frank James Solomon, seen partly through the eyes of the film’s narrator and conspirator and his scene-setting references.

Let’s Be Frank has been carefully curated across 3 continents during the past 3 years, with locations including the hallowed North Shore of Hawaii to the dark barrels of the Irish coastline around Bundoran, and features iconic surfers including John John Florence, Pat O’Connell, Donavon Frankenreiter, Andrew Cotton, and Jamie O’Brien alongside some unforgettable characters. This action-led fictional non-fiction film pairs a stylized 50’s colour palette with an inquisitive storyline and is accompanied by a haunting original music score from three-time Grammy Award winner and surfer Ben Harper, alongside Jesse Ingalls & Jason Mozersky available to buy on iTunes and Amazon ahead of the film release from 19th August.

Get set for an immersive experience navigating through the perceived worlds of one of the most respected big wave chargers on the planet. Frank Solomon is not your average surfer, and Let’s Be Frank is not your average surf film.
