Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival Set to Inspire Young Filmmakers

South Africa / Johannesburg / Red Bull Amaphiko / Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival
The Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival brings socially relevant stories to the heart of Soweto told through the lens of self-taught filmmakers
There’s a new film festival coming to Soweto – The Red Bull Amaphiko Film Festival aims to celebrate the power of film as a driver for social change whilst creating a platform for collaboration between aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals.
Taking place from the 28th to the 30th of October 2016 at the Eyethu Lifestyle Center and Cinema in Soweto, Johannesburg, the festival will showcase ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things in their communities by screening compelling films, all of which are open to the public.
The festival also provides a platform for self-taught filmmakers to showcase their work by submitting films of any length for possible community screenings during the weekend. Film submissions are open on www.amaphikofilmfestival.com – Submission deadline is 23 September 2016 at 5pm.
Successful films chosen for public screenings will be reviewed and selected by a panel of industry veterans including brand film & music video director Lebo Rasethaba, TV and film director Dumisani Phakathi and creative strategist Ntokozo Mabunda.
Award winning filmmaker and mentor Lebo Rasethaba is most looking forward to the exchange between the older filmmaking community and the younger generation, “it’s going to be a really exciting platform that will hopefully grow the industry” he said.
