FoxP2 Design, the new offering in FoxP2’s stable, was awarded a D&AD Pencil at the prestigious D&AD award show held in London on Friday night. FoxP2 Design is headed up by FoxP2 founding partner and ECD, Andrew Whitehouse, along with FoxP2 BUD Mark Van Rooyen. The jurors at arguably the world’s toughest award show awarded the Cape Animal Dentistry logo in the logo and branding category, along with only a handful of other winners from around the world. Says Whitehouse, “We were fortunate enough to win a Cannes Lion six months after opening our FoxP2 doors in 2005 and that set a benchmark for us very early on. We’ve tried to deliver a consistent world-class product ever since and my vision for FoxP2 Design is no different. We’re not going to take on every piece of business that comes our way, but rather choose to work with like-minded clients – clients that recognise the power of design to transform businesses.” The like-minded clients FoxP2 have completed work for now include Coronation Fund Managers, Cinema Nouveau, King Lager, Thirst and Carbon Films.
Continues Whitehouse, “What really interests us is the place where Design and technology meet. At the moment we have a number of product proto-types in the pipeline that will harness technology through design and allow consumers to engage with brands on a deeper level. We’ve always had a culture of experimentation at FoxP2, and the design of our offices encourage our people to express themselves in a playful manner. For this reason, our offices are often referred to as “The Lab” and we do now, in fact, have an actual real life prototyping lab where you’ll often see Mark and myself donning aprons and welding goggles. Finding innovative design solutions to marketing challenges is what gets us out of bed in the morning.”
Whitehouse started off his career as a Designer and then entered the advertising field as an Art Director and then Creative Director. His work has been recognised at International award shows that include One Show, Clio’s, D&AD and Cannes while locally, he has won multiple Ad Of The Years and Loerie Grand Prixs. Significantly, his craft has been consistently recognised with Loerie craft gold awards over the years and his design for the FoxP2 offices went on to win the Loerie Grand Prix in 3D and Environmental Design.
Concludes Van Rooyen, “We focus on the moments when people have one on one time with your brand. The moment when there is no advertising jingle, clever copy line or celebrity endorsement to persuade your customer one way or the other. These are the moments of truth, the moments which will ultimately define your brand’s real-world image. We don’t use a ‘one size fits all’ solution but rather apply an intuitive approach to create memorable brand assets.”
