It’s time to catch up on all of the missed moments that passed us by during the lockdown.

So many birthdays, weddings, births and baby showers, among other significant events went uncelebrated this year.

But thanks to the easing of restrictions and our resilience, we are finding great ways to catch up on missed moments from the year of the pandemic.

Here are some of the inventive ways we are taking back special moments from 2020:

A romantic staycation

Travel has been one of the things people missed most during the lockdown. So, in a bid to stave off burnout, celebrate a milestone or as a way to make the most of a challenging situation, why not try a romantic staycation?

Not only will you save money on the travel and accommodation costs, but you can enjoy some rest and relaxation in the comfort of your own home, complete with champagne, candles, rose petals and really great home-cooked meals.

A family potluck

You have likely missed out on so many meals with loved ones, and many of your family favourite dishes have gone uneaten. To catch up on your favourites, why not host a small, socially distanced family potluck and you will get to enjoy everyone’s signature dish all on one plate. From your granny’s famous breyani recipe to that chicken curry you could never quite replicate, a family potluck is an excellent way for everyone to show off and enjoy trademark dishes that have been dearly missed during the lockdown. It will be a day of love, eating and celebrating that will no doubt leave everyone fulfilled and full.

Graduation playback

You may not have had the graduation of your dreams, but that doesn’t mean you can’t host a graduation celebration for your nearest and dearest. You can play your ceremony video for those who were not able to share it with you and then take a look back at your education experiences and milestones. For maximum authenticity and effect, you can even have the day complete with canapes, toasts and graduation gowns.

A blanket birthday party

In honour of all the missed birthdays this year, why not host a blanket celebration, literally.

A picnic is a great way to celebrate responsibly, and the outdoors is the perfect setting. You can set up socially distanced picnic blankets in your garden or local park and enjoy the company of friends and family to celebrate birthdays that were missed.

Bring snacks, drinks and even a cake and sing happy birthday to as many people as you want.

And remember when gathering with people from outside your home, it’s important to make sure that you adhere to the rules and regulations relating to the global health crisis.

Wear masks, adhere to sanitising and handwashing  guidelines and maintain social distancing for the safety of yourself and those around you.

There is nothing quite like a celebration to validate a significant moment in your life, and that has been missing for many of us in 2020.

Take back your special moments with a meal, a staycation or simply with a much needed but responsible get-together.
