Who is Udesh Chetty and what do you do?
Professionally, I work in the film post-production industry creating visual effects for television commercials. TV commercial work tends to be heavily client driven; I therefore find working on my own projects a great outlet to satisfy my personal creative impetus. I have spent a lot my free time working on digital art prints. These prints allow me to crossover between the disciplines of graphic design, photography, illustration and 3d modeling and rendering each of which I have a great passion for.
How would you define your style or art?
I think the subject matter in my work is quite broad from the photorealistic to the abstract. But I do think that my work can be described as digital pop art.
What inspires your work?
Some of the concept driven pieces were ideas that I sketched onto paper and then translated into 3d renderings. A lot of the time though, just playing around in software yields a starting point for a piece which I can then finesse into a finished art work.
What are you currently working on?
I have been quite busy of late working on a TV commercial for the new Audi A8, so have taken a small break from personal work.
What advice would you give young creatives looking to do what you do?
Do as much personal work as possible. These passion projects will definitely bulk up your portfolio and also show off your personal style, which can make you more marketable. Personal projects also allow you to experiment. A lot of the knowledge gained whilst experimenting can be very beneficial on jobs in the professional industry.
